Relationship with Suppliers

The purchases of Itaipu follow the criteria and modalities set forth in the General Bidding Rules (NGL), which seeks to select the most advantageous proposal for the Company, considering aspects such as price, quality, term and impacts for sustainability.

In 2013, the Company established the Sustainable Procurement Policy, which sets guidelines for its acquisitions to consider the life cycle of products and services and the economic, social and environmental impacts generated by them. The Flexible Chart Matrix was created, with targets for the 2013-2020 period, with 60.5% of all scenarios planned up to 2020 already being realized. Itaipu's goal is to be internationally recognized for excellence in sustainable procurement.

Results indicators are verified in the monitoring carried out using data extracted from ERP/SAP and other sources, which are aligned and meet the reporting needs of the protocols to which Itaipu is a signatory, such as GRI and IHA. They are also accompanied by indicators that measure the maturity of the program itself.

In 2017, to improve data measurement, the Company contracted a specialized international consultancy for the restructuring of the Sustainable Procurement Program, incorporating new sustainability criteria for the acquisition of goods and services that allow the monitoring of the performance of the Sustainable Procurement Policy. The new sustainable criteria to be considered at the time of purchase will enter into force in the second half of 2018.

It is also worth noting the conclusion of the work of the international group that developed ISO 20400 – Sustainable Purchases, in which Itaipu played a relevant role. The standard was published in March and, to be acquired, just access the website of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT).
